Personal experiences are SO powerful when it comes to creative growth. Whether they are one of your main influences or a secondary element, they definitely contribute to creative growth throughout your life.

Personal Experiences Fuel:

  • New connections

  • New opportunities

  • New realizations

  • New growths

So, if want to empower your creativity, reflecting on your personal experiences is a great place to acknowledge your creative progression throughout your life, and how it can continue to grow!

How Personal Experiences Fueled My Creativity

My grandfather and my mother were both artists. They painted on canvases, glass, ceramics, Prada bags, and Gucci clothes. Really, anything they could get their hands on!

This formative engagement with paints and paintbrushes showed me how a person can make an image from nothing. What was once blank and devoid of character, could become bright, colorful, and expressive.

I chased that feeling for myself throughout my life.

I found that when I began writing.

However, that didn’t come till later in life. I believed in my heart that if my mom and grandfather were both traditional artists that I would be as well. I studied Art History and also took on International Business in College in order to understand both sides of the art world. Yet, I never fully connected with the expression. It didn’t feel fulfilling, empowering or meaningful. I didn’t experience the same bright vibrancy that I did when I wrote.

Once I finally gave into my personal experiences and understood my connection to writing in a creative manner, I knew no matter how many times I picked up a paint brush I wouldn’t feel the same way. I also knew that this would fuel my creative expression in ways I had never experienced before!

I built a deeper connection with myself

When I accepted the fact that I had my own unique creativity to share I began showing up for myself in new ways. This allowed me to trust myself more, appreciate my personal values in a new way, and I was able to cultivate an environment of learning for myself. I gave myself opportunities to experiment, to succeed, and to fail in a healthy and safe mindset. All of this fueled deeper self-awareness, appreciation, and love.

I genuinely connected with my community

When I began writing I knew I would have to be comfortable with being vulnerable. Sharing my thoughts, opinions, and perspectives are challenging in society today. The way to get past it is to know that there will always be someone who disagrees with you, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. This means that there will also always be someone who agrees with you. Through experience, you will learn to show up not only for yourself but for the people who appreciate your thoughts and perspectives. Those people make up your community and their support will fuel you with so much motivation.

I began building my legacy

Writing a book is a huge undertaking, and I also learned during the process that it is also a big responsibility. Writing a book and publishing it is sharing your creativity, along with your personal experiences and beyond with the world. And it can’t be taken away. There will be prof of it somewhere forever. This mindset helped guide my writing in a way that I would be able to help for years beyond now. Not just for the current times. This gave me a unique motivation to be genuine while writing in a bold, authentic manner.

My personal experiences were life-changing and continue to provide me with new opportunities for growth and collaboration on a regular basis. And it is the best feeling to know that it all came from a genuine, authentic, and bold place within me!

I hope this breakdown helped you understand how your personal experiences motivate and inspire your creativity as well! Your creative strengths will continue to grow as long as you continue to challenge them and learn from your personal experiences!
